amputation
Sweden, June '03. The Vasa museum was simply amazing. In the 1600's the warship Vasa set out on her maiden voyage. Two gundecks, full crew, all the fix-ins. However, she was built improperly ... not enough ballast in the bottom of the ship to keep it upright and stable, so she sank in brackish waters. In the 1970's (maybe even late 60's ... I can't remember), an explorer found the ship. It was eventually brought out of the water with the wood in nearly perfect condition (the brackish water was nice ... if it had been salty ocean water, it wouldn't have lasted very long). Over the years the ship was restored and eventually it was towed into a dry dock on its own keel. An amazing museum was built around the ship that showed what life was like around the time the ship was made, how the ship was made, what weaponry it had, battles fought at the time, how the crew lived, and so on. This gruesome little scene, one of several that revolved in a dark showcase, depicts an amputation.
