Paris, July '03. Worn hand of one of the Burghers of Calais in the garden of the Rodin museum. This is the most powerful sculpture I know of. I was particularly touched by how people wished to communicate with the very large hands of the Burghers. Only the hands were worn and shiny, as if some kind of human feeling is transmitted through hands, living or not. Holding one of these hands was like being a child again, looking up at your father, and his giant hands.
